Young Hearts, Run Free by Candi Staton
I just heard another sob tale from a young woman who claimed to feel "stuck" and "tied down" in a bad relationship.
What is wrong with a lot of young women these days? Here is a nice, pretty young woman who has a whole lot going for her in terms of education, career and success except for one thing. She is not smart enough to realize that, instead of a relationship, she is in jail. As a "No Future Ambition" (N.F.A.) the man in her life gives her nothing but a daily dose of drama that is premised on sheer emotional insecurity, verbal assaults and occasional "black eye". Ask her what she finds fantastic in the guy and all she can ever think of is "well...he is good-looking..." And worse of all, this woman thinks there is such a shortage of men out there that she can't afford to risk "leaving certainty for uncertainty".
How can any woman be so gullible as to think that she will be lonely and dogged with an empty life if she lets go of a "never-do-well" man? If only they realize that there is never a shortage of men but just a dearth of eligible men. And with a calculated patience, any woman can always get the right man. But first, they need to know what a "calculated patience" is all about in the emotional department.
Therefore, I'm dedicating this classic song by Candi Staton to all gullible young women who are having problems in letting go of bad guys and the terrible, drama-filled relationships they bring along. They are, as Candi Staton states in this classic song, "young hearts" who can't let go of unworthy bad guys in their lives. It's time to break-away and run free! Young Hearts, Run Free by Candi Staton.
What's the sense in sharing
This one and only life
Endin' up just another lost and lonely wife
You'll count up the years
And they will be filled with tears
Love only breaks up, to start over again
You'll get the babies, but you won't have your man
While he is busy loving every woman that he can, uh-huh
Say I'm gonna leave a hundred times a day
It's easier said than done
When you just can't break away
(when you just can't break away)
[Chorus:]
Oh, young hearts run free
Never be hung up
Hung up like my man and me
My man and me
Ooooh, young hearts, to yourself be true
Don't be no fool when love really don't love you
Don't love you
It's high time now just one crack at life
Who wants to live in, in trouble and strife
My mind must be free
To learn all I can about me, uh-hmm
I'm gonna love me, for the rest of my days
Encourage the babies every time they say
Self preservation is what's really going on today
Say I'm gonna turn loose a thousand times a day
But how can I turn loose
When I just can't break away
(when I just can't break away)
Oh, young hearts run free
They'll never be hung up
Hung up like my man and me
You and me
Ooooh, young hearts, to yourself be true
Don't be no fool when love really don't love you
Don't love you
Oh, young hearts run free
They'll never be hung up
Hung up like my man and me
You and me
Ooooh, young hearts, to yourself be true
Don't be no fool when love really don't love you
Don't love you
Oh, young hearts run free
They'll never be hung up
Hung up like my man and me
My man and me
Ooooh, young hearts, to yourself be true
Don't be no fool when love really don't love you
Don't love you.
