14 year old boy David Phan takes his life due to bullying.

Here we go again! Where was everyone when the bullying of David was taking place on daily basis? I’ll tell you. Everyone was minding their own business…in America, for instance, you mind your own business…until you also become a victim of whatever is taking place.

Unfortunately, bullying or harassment is a major contagious act of aggression which is commonly transferred by emotionally troubled or abused people upon other individuals they have identified to be weaker than them. The objective of bullying therefore is the attainment of some kind of boost for someone with low self-esteem from a weaker person.

So far, people often refer to bullying only in terms of schools. But bullying takes place every micro second in homes, streets, neighborhoods and job places. Incidentally, we all as individuals, react to the acts of bullying in different ways. Most times though, victims of bullying will rather keep quiet and suffer in silence for two reasons. First, they don’t want many people to see them as weak. And second (in the United States) because where a report is made, the affected victim will be branded a “snitch”. And that’s one adjective no one wants to be applied to them, except the “bravehearts”.

It’s only when a victim of bullying or harassment such as David does something “crazy” as in killing himself or worse, killing a whole lot of innocent people before killing himself, then there will be lots of hues and cries. And soon, the noises will die down and it will be business as usual….until the “fire next time.”
