With the current #EndSARS (protest against incessant police brutality), the Nigerian youths have finally decided to take the "bull by its horn". They have realized the futility of waiting for some imaginary political saviors to rescue them.
This protest can only be rivaled by the 1993 protests
organized by the Campaign for Democracy (CD). Yet, the #EndSARS protest is even
appearing to be superior to the 1993 protest in scope and organization. Unlike
that of the CD, the government has no feasible leader or organizer to arrest or
bribe. This is a mass movement of the people. When a protester is arrested by
the police, there are stand-by lawyers waiting to bail them out immediately.
And whenever anyone is injured, some health workers are around to attend to
them. One can only hope the Buhari government is aware of the long-term
implications of this protest.
