Extreme Politics.

Lately, I’ve found myself in the company of some people who are extreme in their political leanings. They really can’t wait to exclaim that I’m “very conservative in ideas and manners”. Some will hear me talk about certain issues such as sexuality education or “babies having babies” and they will quickly and excitedly ask if I’m “a Republican?”

When I ask why they feel that way about me, those of them who are Democrats will say that I’m not “liberal to be a Democrat” while those who are Republicans will gleefully state that I do exhibit considerable family values in my utterances and carriage.

And in spite of my stating that I’m a Democrat, these individuals insist that my conservative principles make me a Republican. Now, I wonder why it is assumed that only Republicans have family values or any type of values for that matter. To the best of my knowledge, I’m simply a Conservative Democrat the same way some Republicans are Liberal Republicans. Is it a crime to be moderate in one’s political belief?
