An eccentric professor of Philosophy gave a one-question-final exam
after a semester dealing with a
broad array of topics.
The class was already seated and
ready to go when the professor
picked up his chair, plopped it
on his desk and wrote on the board:
"Using everything we have
learned this semester, prove
that this chair does not
exist."
Fingers flew, erasers erased,
notebooks were filled in furious
fashion. Some students wrote over
30 pages in one hour
attempting to refute the
existence of the chair. One member of
the class however, was up and
finished in less than one minute.
Weeks later when the grades were
posted, the student who finished
in one minute got an A+.
The rest of the group wondered
how he could have gotten such a great grade when
he had barely written anything at
all.
This is what he wrote:
“What chair?"
MY COMMENT:
Every endeavor in life such as a relationship, marriage, parenting,
career or business, does has its fair share of problems or obstacles.
As aptly indicated in the above story however, too many people approach
their problems or obstacles from an exaggerated point of view, thus making a
mountain out of a mote hill. And worse, instead of applying the right tools in
overcoming their problems, these unlucky individuals will rather expend precious
time and energy in knocking their heads against walls in petty jealousy, sheer
envy or unnecessary hatred toward those who are doing the right thing.
Yet, the prescribed solution is merely a candid self-evaluation.
With this earnestly done, even the most unfortunate individuals will realize that all they need do is
simply a change in attitude, perception of life and, above all, better problem-solving
strategies.
