What Manner of Couple Bred This Kid?

A couple of days ago inside a classroom the Bartram High School within the Philadelphia School District, a female student sat on the lap of a male student while they were both engaged in some “inappropriate business”. A teacher saw them and ordered the two to stop.

“Fuck you!” the male student yelled at the teacher and continued with his “fun”.

On hearing this “insult upon injury” profanity, the teacher ordered he student to leave the class. The student left the class but waited for the 68-year-old teacher to get out of the class. As the man did, he was sucker-punched by the crazy student. As the student fled (they always do after committing crimes), the school nurse attended to the poor teacher who was subsequently taken to a hospital.

The old teacher did something I love though. He insisted on pressing criminal charges against the student. And in the meantime, the boy has been suspended by the school authorities.

I believe it’s not everyone that is capable of being a good parent. The young man in this story did not just drop from the sky. And so, I wonder what manner of couple brought him to this world?

Anyway, this is another vindication for my decision to never attempt to be a teacher in God’s own country. If the only available job is teaching, I would prefer to be jobless than go to jail. God knew very well what would have happened if I had been the teacher in this incident.

An Odd Fellow in the Neoconservative Right.

Joe Scarborough is the host of MSNBC’s morning Joe. He is very well known for his “redneck” conservative views. This man has done everything in his power to push some very extreme, myopic conservative ideas through his tv shows. The views are such that can only get on the nerves of liberals out there. And the more the liberals are irritated, the more Scarborough feels fulfilled.

However, there is one issue on which the hardcore Republican agrees with most Democrats. It is the issue of gun control. When it comes to the gun control debate, this is one Neoconservative who stands far apart from his compatriots in the Republican Party.

Hear Scarborough on the negative effects of gun ownership: “A man is dead and a little girl’s life is ruined. I say this as a father of an eleven year old girl. Who would put an Uzi in the hands of a nine-year-old girl? What is wrong with these people? What is wrong with this culture? What right is advanced by doing that?”

Scarborough did not stop at so many questions. He went further to say that “there's nothing in the Second Amendment that gives kids the right to fire semi-automatics.”

Tom Brokaw on Gun Control.

On Thursday's "Morning Joe," Brokaw declared that the raging gun control debate reminded him of another chapter in America's history.

Thomas John "Tom" Brokaw is an American television journalist and author best known as the anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News from 1982 to 2004.

Blog_BrokawSpeaking on the salient topic, the veteran broadcaster said “It reminds me a lot of what happened in the South in the 1960s during the civil rights movement. Good people stayed in their houses and didn't speak up when there was carnage in the streets and the total violation of the fundamental rights of African-Americans as they marched in Selma, and they let Bull Connor and the redneck elements of the South and the Klan take over their culture in effect and become a face of it. And now a lot of people who I know who grew up during that time have deep regrets about not speaking out."

Blog_Brokaw2Above picture shows the 9-year-old girl that accidentally shot her trainer. But why, in God's name, would anyone with common sense put an Uzi in the hands of a little 9-year-old?

Brokaw stated further that "Now it's time for the people who do have strong feelings, who are feeling that they can't do anything about it, to kind of band together and have something to say here."

What Manner of Justice in California?

Blog_convivt2 Condemned murderers in California have every reason to smile lately. They will no longer be executed for their crimes against the society and humanity. On July 16, 2014, a Federal judge, Cormac Carney (pictured above) ruled that California’s process of executing prisoners is so dysfunctional that it amounts to “cruel and unusual punishment” and is therefore unconstitutional. And what was the US District court judge’s reason for making this decision? Of the more than 900 people sentenced to death in that state since 1978, only 13 have been executed. Handout photo of San Quentin State Prison inmate Ernest Dewayne Jones Among the implications of the landmark decision of judge Carney is that upon their cold-blooded murder, victims of crimes will automatically lose their constitutional rights. For instance, the pains, agonies and deaths of the many victims of Ernest Dewayne Jones (the convicted rapist and murderer pictured above) have become insignificant. This is because, according to the judge, the method adopted by California in executing prisoners constituted a “cruel and unusual punishment”. But did anyone tell the judge that all the victims of Jones were murdered in some nice, cool manners?

Having a Child is a Choice

Going by the daily reports in newspapers and on TV, too many young people are railroading themselves into correctional facilities over dumb stuffs. And there is the strange pattern of the many convicts whose formative years were at the mercy of individuals who did not care a hoot about their future. Unfortunately this pattern persists till today.

On the one hand are the foster parents, some of whom are simply out to make some extra bucks. And, on the other hand, are the proxy parents. These are the grandparent, aunty, uncle and even the nanny to whom a biological parent routinely abdicates the primary responsibility for a child.

And talking of the biological parents; there are men who are more adept at sowing their "wild oats" than nurturing the fruits of their labor. Conversely, there are women who, for financial gains, will rather be custodial parents living off "child supports" without any form of motherly instinct.

There is also the pathetic scenario of a once-loving married couple who have now turned against each other in a bitter separation or divorce battle.  As one party tries to outdo the other in trading blames and grabbing whatever money or property is within reach, kids that are the products of the union are left in the lurch or treated as the last item of consideration.

Ironically, while the poor, hapless kids wallow in confusion and anger in the aftermath of this grave situation, the parents simply move on with their lives. Some of these parents will even unwittingly flaunt their new lovers in the face of the kids.

Most kids from one or more of the above situations go on in life with chips on their shoulders. With the impression that society owes them something, such kids proceed to look for scapegoats against whom to lash out their anger and frustrations, even at the risk of getting hurt in the process. And most often, the consequence is a jail term or sometimes, an untimely death.

Having a child is a choice—whether from a casual relationship or marriage. Regrettably, there are many kids who are ultimately made to feel like a "mistake" that arises from a couple's poor choice in life.

Procreation should not be an unwelcome result from a sexual recklessness. And neither should a child be construed for a therapeutic toy for a woman to "lean on" when confronted with some life's travails. Rather, it’s a self-imposed, life-long, painstaking task that demands physical, material and emotional responsibility.

Those of us who are unable to make these salient provisions, due to one reason or the other, should be fair enough to avoid this choice lest we contribute some menace to the society.
