The Temptation of Fate - Book Trailer.

The Temptation of Fate is a tale of naïve teenagers and ignorant young adults who tempt fate with their rebellious, value-deficient attitudes. These youngsters are never prepared to take responsibilities for their actions because they think the world owes them something. And they are inadvertently encouraged by parents who do not know the difference between parental love and negligence.

JESSICA WEATHERS: A white 17 year-old teenager in the suburb of Chicago is a spoilt brat whose profane vocabulary will make a sailor green with envy. In spite of her loving, adoring parents and a middle-class background, Weathers cannot wait to be free from parental control.

LAKEERA WATSON: On the other side of Chicago, this time, a tough inner city neighborhood, is this black 16-year old who walks in on her mother and boyfriend in an intimate situation. Her mother’s parental indiscretion and negligence will pave the way for the older woman’s boyfriend to lust after the teenager. And the girl’s greed for all that glitters does not help matters.

ERIC TURNER: For this 23 year-old African American, it’s been a rise through thick and thin from a notorious Chicago south-side neighborhood to become a health care professional. He however commits some moral and legal blunders that threaten to derail everything for which he has worked.

MARY MILLER: Turner’s mother and his strong pillar of support. Miller struggles against all odds and stereotypes to ensure the emancipation of her kids from a ghetto existence. Now that her son appears to be on a downward spiral, the woman springs into action not only to save him from going to jail but also to avoid his relapse into a life of doldrums.

Seven Things Women Want.

1. A Man with Integrity: Be manly in all that you do. Say what you mean and mean what you say. And by this I do not mean be arrogant or cocky. A man of integrity strikes me as someone who is confident. And well if you’re kind into the bargain well that’s just even more sexy. The definition of integrity itself is “the adherence to moral and ethical principles; the state of being whole and solid.” Lies are never hot. Nor is the omission of the truth via silence. Acting with integrity is pretty simple: Be a good man. And we’ll love you for it. If you can use this goodness to make the world a better place, then we want you all the more.
2. A Man Who's Present: By this I also mean have some self-awareness; be mindful, strive to make a deeper connection with us. It’s my experience that women who act unnecessarily clingy only do so when they are lacking in attention. That means perhaps you’re not being present with us and we sense it. We are confident women. We don’t need you, we want you because we love you and choose you. But if you’re not present, it causes problems. When you’re in the moment with us everything else fades away. Oh and note to self. A man with presence strikes me as a man who is confident, also.
3. A Man Who's Complimentary & Considerate: Yes, we confident women have our own self-esteem but we like to hear you say nice, honest things since you’re our man. Tell us what you love about us, specifically. We believe it about ourselves but when someone we love says it, wow, that’s hot. As for considerate, to me that might equal making an effort and trying to be a good listener. We don’t want to be priority all the time but we do want to be referred to sometimes and considered. And did I mention a man who is considerate and sincerely complimentary strikes me as a very confident man? (Did someone turn the heat up in here?)
4. A Man Who Takes Initiative: [Temperature still rising in here.] You know honestly, we know we can do this (and we can live alone as Amazon warrior women with one breast intact) yet sometimes don’t want to control it all. Initiative is a serious turn-on in a man. Often, the devil is in the details. We don’t care what you take initiative in, whether it be declaring that you will make the dinner reservations, you will take out the garbage, you will pick the concert, just every once in a while we just want to know you’ve got it covered. Grrr. That’s hot.
5. A Man Who's Passionate: It’s rare to find. Be passionate in something that you do since passion spells everything. We don’t care if it’s politics, football, music, cooking, dogs, billiards or stamp collecting for that matter. That’s irrelevant. When we see you with a commitment, devotion, excitement expressed about something with no restraint then we add two plus two together. If you’re passionate in one area, we know you’ll be passionate in the bedroom. It’s not what society says you should love. It’s not what your friends or family say you should care about. It’s what you, at the deepest and most honest part of yourself, love. We hear it in your voice, the self-assurance, how articulately you speak about this topic and it drives us crazy, in a good way.
6. A Man Who Expresses Humor & Positivity: We love humor, even if it’s just being able to be witty in response every once in a while. We don’t want a clown all the time, but every so often someone who can laugh is a big deal. I once dated a man and no matter how angry or upset I was I couldn’t stay angry with him for long since he had a great sense of humor. I also dated a man who was serious all the time. Guess which one I preferred? It takes a confident person to be able to use humor in the right way. OH and not forgetting optimism too, that’s always good. Together they are dynamic. Dealing with pessimism all the time becomes exhausting.
7. A Man Who Knows Himself & Is Himself: Or at least strive to. Now, that, gentlemen is sexy. You don’t have to know everything about yourself (you can still be searching in some areas) but some self-awareness is hot. If you don’t know yourself, it will be hard for us to figure out the real you. Real men I think know what they believe and what they value in advance. Someone with a kind of inner calm, self-awareness and forward momentum is almost universally considered sexy and attractive to others. You also are in touch with your feelings and you’re not afraid to spend time learning, growing and developing. We don’t care if you’re not exactly where you want to be but we love to see you make this effort. And, note to self, people who know themselves often express vulnerability. And there is absolutely nothing sexier than a vulnerable man.

Waiting to Lick a Hot Soup.

“Sex is a gift from God in which you are one with another person. There is nothing wrong with sex and sexuality. God created both for the enjoyment of MARRIED couples. In our society, waiting for marriage to have sex is often considered a practice of the past. Yet, the effect of sex on our spirits is unchanging. When you have sex with someone, you’re leaving them a piece of yourself, and taking a part of them with you…” – Meagan Good and Devon Franklin in their book, WAIT.

Transgender Couple: When the Weird Meets the Confused.

The lovers below (Bianca and Nick Bowser) are a married couple raising kids in Kentucky. They look cute, don’t they? But theirs is a strange, weird one.

Blog_Transgender_couple

Bianca, 32 (on the left) was originally born as a boy who was named Jason. And her husband, Nick, 27 (on the right) was actually born as a girl named Nicole. The two met in 2009 and fell in love before Nick decided to change his (her) gender.

As a couple, the duo of Bianca (formerly known as a man) and Nick (formerly known as a woman) decided to start a family. As at that time, Nick (who was still physically a female), decided to get pregnant for Bianca (who was then a man) even though Nick already identified as a male at that time. Subsequently, Nick (who was physically a woman) had her breasts removed surgically in order to fit into "her" new role as a man.

The bottom line of this saga now is the reversal of genders by the two individuals. Bianca (the former male) is now a woman/wife while Nick (the former female) is now a man/husband.

In the near future, it will be left for the kids of this couple to sort out the weird from the confused. However, theirs will definitely not be as simple as separating "the rice from the chaff"!

What Manner of Men Are Out There These Days?

There are many men out there. And they are mostly unsuitable for a long-time-relationship or marriage. Here are samples:

Blog_men2

A man’s head is filled with corn rows. And when he is not going about with those silly braids, his head is covered with some lousy rags. He proudly indicates that all these are in a bid to show that he has a thug attitude even though he is well in his middle twenties. He needs to grow up!

A man spends too much time in front of a mirror. He has a cosmetic case or a table filled with so many hair grooming stuff and “make-up” items that one will think the house belongs to a woman. Outside, people see him as pretty, not handsome. If you stand on a line behind him at a check-out counter, you can mistake him for a woman. Unless you are a lesbian, this is not a real man!

A man speaks with a falsetto rather than with a real man’s vocal tone. When he is angry, he screams like a woman instead of yelling as a real man does. Whenever he is frustrated or involved in an argument, a pair of tears soon wells up in his eyes. He needs to man up!

Blog_men

A man spends too much time in a gym. But all he does is focus all attention on building his chest and biceps or triceps. That is an indication that he is deficient in the most sensitive area of his body. Unless it doesn’t matter to you (and that will be a lie) watch out!

A man drives a Lexus. He wears designer clothes and shoes. But he still lives with his mama…in her house. It doesn’t matter if he pays rent and parts of the utility bills. And, of course, his age does not matter. He needs to grow up!

A man is in his middle thirties. He has a great job, a house, a car and looks like a guy from the cover of a glossy magazine. Yet, he is single. Please, for your own sake, do not assume that he is a “player”, except if a major hobby of his is to play with toys. Underneath that “cool” façade may actually be a scared “mama’s boy”, a little boy trapped inside a grown body, a sociopath, a closet psychopath or a man “On-The-Down-Low”. Before you rush to fall in love with a fluke of a man, open your eyes!

Relationships 101.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a discussion with a young man who was having problems in committing himself to a serious relationship due to a very cynical view of women. In conclusion, he asked me:

“In the meantime, what would you advise a young ‘player’ like me to do in order to have the most fun?”

My response: “Never tell a woman the truth until you know her true character!”

Yesterday, the same young man sent an in-box message on Facebook to pay me compliments for having such lovely daughters. Then, in conclusion, he wondered:

“So...what advice would you give the young ladies about men?”

My response: “Never believe anything a man tells you until you know his real motives!”

Beware of Your Associates.

Why do some individuals appear to have perennial relationship problems?

A person enters into a relationship and before long, it’s all over and they start wondering what goes wrong; is the problem with them or the erstwhile partners?

There are married couples who just can’t comprehend why their spouses often do things that are inimical to the success of their marriages.

The first step here is for the affected individuals to prepare a list of their five closest associates.  Now, the closest associates may be friends, siblings or (and) relations. Studies have proved that a person’s attitude to life, social grace (or a lack of it), spirituality, work ethics and several other character traits are mostly shaped or influenced by their closest associates. Traits such as drug addiction, alcoholism, infidelity, indolence, and other social vices don’t just suddenly feature in the character of an individual. They are the direct or indirect manifestations of the influence of closest associates.

Subsequently, there is a need for an intensive evaluation of each associate, taking particular note of their positive and negative influences. For associates whose negative traits out-number the positive, it’s time to do away with them.

The last step to take in this process is the re-inventing of the individual.

A friend once explained why it took him so long to get married. It was due to the negative influences of some erstwhile friends. Erroneously seen as a “player”, whenever he had a woman in his life, the naive guy would go seeking the approvals of his friends. And then, the criticisms would start to roll in. If the friends did not consider the woman a “gold digger”, she would be crucified for being too arrogant. And when the next woman that came along was not found to be a “girl-about-town”, she would be condemned for being a “slut”. That was until it occurred to the poor man that the same friends were actually married to women who variously fitted the profiles they were criticizing in the women that came his way. He discarded the friends and proceeded to reinvent himself.

And there was a former colleague whose marriage ran into murky waters due to the constant suspicion of infidelity she placed on her husband. Somehow, the source of all these suspicions was a blood relation (her cousin). The couple was at the brink of getting a divorce when the secrets were let out. The mischievous cousin finally confessed and while the victim of her gross misdeeds accepted the apology, she instantly did away with the cousin.

It was Cherie Burbach who opined that “when determining which types of people will make great friends, it’s important to note who might be considered a negative friend. A negative friend is slightly different than a ‘frenemy’ in that they actually do want the best for you, but they focus on the downsides to any situation. For example, if you announce that you have won a lottery, there are friends who will not congratulate you. Instead, they will begin talking about how you’ll have to pay some hefty tax. In another example, if you announce that you’ve got a new, better job, don’t expect everyone to wish you well. That’s when some friends will express pity that you’re now going to be working so many hours.”

With friends or associates like that, you really don’t need any enemy!

Editorial Reviews

Author's Motivation:

The motivation to write The Die Is Cast came from the phenomenon of my childhood. As a child growing up in the early sixties-Nigeria (Africa), I had a strange ability to perceive the travails of certain soul personalities. These were individuals who passed away untimely either through accidents or sicknesses. I was however fortunate to have matured and patient parents who were able to effectively guide me through each encounter.
For instance, there was a day I ran an errand for my mother and while on my way back home I met one such soul personality. The woman looked disheveled, lost and confused. As she approached me, the first statement from her was
"I know you can see me..."
When I nodded in affirmation, the woman asked "Where is this...I don't know where I am?..."
Gently, I informed her that she was in Lagos, Nigeria.
"Really?" she asked.
Once again, I could only nod in affirmation.
"Okay young man...thank you." the poor woman said as she walked away.

Never Ignore The Past

I used to wonder why some people (and especially women) just couldn't get it right easily in matters of the heart. But now, I know the reason: They ignore the past!

While it's alright to let go of past errors, but to shut out its lessons is similar to throwing a baby out with the bath water. This was the lesson I learned from an old friend many years ago.

I've never seen any woman that fell so quickly in love with every "dream man" instead of the "right man."

Back then, she had the prototype image of an educated, cultured, perfect gentleman in her mind and this was fair enough because she had the same qualities. The only problem however was that as soon as any man came along, she would proceed to "mold" him into her conceivable image much to the chagrin of the concerned men. For instance, she once spent a fortune to "kit up" one "creep" with some pretty suits and shoes just for the thug to look presentable. And as usual, the dude pretended to go through the charade until he had his fill of her "cookie" and then (like the others before him), he ran.

Incidentally, she just didn't get it. Each time, we talked and I had to listen to her sob story, she would always blame it all on the guys. Most times, her frustrating question was "what's wrong with guys?" That was until one day, I told her bluntly that "the question really is what the heck is wrong with YOU?" And when she looked confused, I asked further, when she would start learning from her past errors?

I said since she knew what she wanted in a man, all she had to do was WAIT for the right man to show up (with all the right packages) instead of trying to mold every Tom, Dick or Harry that came along into her expectations.

To my surprise, it took only a few minutes for the message to sink in. She has since been happily married.

Ironically, she always thank me for making her look back to learn from her past errors. But I will always thank her for providing some useful lessons I can pass down to my daughters.
